The Pittsburgh Steelers released the last official injury repot for Sunday’s match up against the Tennessee Titans and in comparison to some NFL franchises, the Steelers are in good shape. At this point, Le’Veon Bell (foot) and tight end Heath Miller (knee) are the only two players who will not play.
For Bell, the highly touted rookie running back, he has shed the walking boot and may be able to return to practice soon. According to reports, his playing time may be directly tied to the number of practice reps he receives, vice his overall health. As a young and inexperienced rookie, head coach Mike Tomlin must regain his confidence that he will be ready both physically and mentally.
With Miller on the sideline, David Johnson and David Paulson should see the bulk of the action at tight end, although that rotation may be altered if fullback Will Johnson cannot go. Johnson, who injured his hamstring in the preseason finale has been limited in practice all week and is listed as probable on the injury report. If Johnson cannot go, David Johnson will likely move to the fullback position and Paulson and the teams’ third tight end Michael Palmer will likely rotate at the conventional tight end position.
Rounding out the injury list is rookie linebacker Jarvis Jones (probable/chest). Although just like Johnson, Jones has been limited in practice throughout the week, it would be a surprise if he did not make his much-anticipated regular season debut on Sunday. In fact, after such an impressive preseason, it would be a surprise if Jones did not log a large amount of reps once the ball is kicked off.
The rookie first round selection out of Georgia has been one of the most impressive linebackers the Steelers have drafted in some time. More importantly, he appears to be a ball magnet, and is always in a position to make a splash play, something the Steelers have lacked in the past few seasons.
