The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be a team in transition, with a new look roster that will see at least seven new starters on the field in Week 1. Leading this group are some core veterans, with four of those being voted as team Captains..Ryan Clark, defensive end Brett Keisel, center Maurkice Pouncey and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger were selected by their teammates to be the captains.
For some, like Roethlisberger, this is an annual occurrence. 2013 will mark the fifth time in the past six seasons that the veteran signal caller has been voted into the position. However, for Pouncey, the leader of the offensive line, this is his first such honor.
The same could be said on the defensive side of the ball as well, as Keisel has been named a captain for the second consecutive year. Clark, who was voted a captain for the first time, will join him. Clark is an emotional leader, who is often one of the most physical and outspoken defensive backs in the league.
For a team full of new faces and many young players who will have to step up in 2013, the leadership of these four, and the other veterans will be a key to success. With the first game less than one week away, it is go time.
