The Pittsburgh Steelers are one day away from their preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers. For some, this is a meaningless game, as they will not touch the field. For others, they will be fighting for their careers.
Of all the positions up for grabs, the wide receiver battle could be the best. Derek Moye, Justin Brown, and Reggie Dunn all appear to be fighting for one, possibly two roster spots. At first glance, it should give Brown a boost, as Jones appears to have a feel for him in the passing game after playing together for one season at Oklahoma. However, in the game against the Washington Redskins, Jones and Moye seemed to have that same type of connection.
Both Brown and Moye are bigger receivers and both could offer some depth with Red Zone potential for the offense. The big picture question is will either make it to the practice squad if released. If that is the case, Moye likely makes the final 53-man roster, as Brown would likely clear waivers and be able to be re-signed.
Of course, the easiest decision will be with Dunn. If the Steelers decide to keep a return specialist/special teamer, than Dunn is the man. Yes, he has not taken one to the house in preseason, but he is a game changer. You cannot coach his incredible natural speed and if given the chance, he will hit pay dirt.
