The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to have more money left under the salary cap than many fans would have expected. While the team will likely use some of it on contract extensions, this is also the time of the offseason where the Steelers usually make an under-the-RADAR type move.Steve Breaston, the team could decide to look at another area, offensive tackle. Yes, they did sign veteran Guy Whimper, but with Mike Adams recovering from his injuries suffered in the attempted car jacking, tackle could quietly be an area of concern.
Earlier this offseason, the Steelers met with veteran offensive tackle Winston Justice and he remains unsigned. The former Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts unrestricted free agent could be a solid addition in a back-up role and more importantly add some competition for Whimper if there are complications in Adams’ recovery.
At this point, standing pat and extending a contract is the more likely scenario, especially after scouring the available unrestricted free agent list. However, it would not be a surprise if the team takes a run at one more veteran for depth purposes, and that player could be Justice.
