As many fans head off into their holiday break from work, the Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing to fight for their playoff lives. Their first must-win game comes Sunday in their critical AFC North match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals.Ike Taylor holding Bengals Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Green in check. With Taylor out, cornerbacks Cortez Allen and Keenan Lewis will have to do the job.
Luckily, for the Steelers both cornerbacks practiced on Friday and are listed as probable. Lewis (Hip) has been an unsung hero for the Steelers defense and has truly come into his own opposite Taylor. It is likely that he will be charged with covering Green (with safety help) as Taylor did in Cincinnati. For Allen (Groin), his injury came as he was thrust into the spotlight as a starter after Taylors’ injury. Like Allen, he was coming on and had put together a solid campaign in his role as the nickel cornerback.
Joining the two cornerbacks as probable for this match-up are James Harrison (illness), Troy Polamalu (Calf), Al Woods (Illness), Cam Heyward (Personal), Curtis Brown (Knee), Maurkice Pouncey (Illness) and Emmanuel Sanders (Ribs). One player who will likely join Taylor on the sideline is offensive tackle Mike Adams (Ankle) who returned to practice in a limited capacity Wednesday.
