Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Steelers' head coach Mike Tomlin has already ruled out safety Troy Polamalu from Thursday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
When the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2) completed grinding out their 16-14 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday, there was little time to relax with a Thursday road game on tap. This quick turnaround became even more difficult as the injury bug continues to bite the Steelers. The biggest news of the game Sunday (next to Rashard Mendenhall’s tremendous 2012 debut) was more injuries to the defense, with Troy Polamalu (calf) and linebacker LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) leaving the game and not returning. These injuries would be difficult to overcome on a normal week, let alone one with a quick turnaround.
Today, the fans and teams fears were realized as head coach Mike Tomlin has already ruled out Polamalu for Thursday’s game against the Titans and listed Woodley as doubtful for the contest.
Fortunately (or unfortunately), the Steelers have played the majority of their season without Polamalu and either Woodley or James Harrison at outside linebacker. While the back-ups have stepped in, their performances are far below the standards set by these superstars.
