NFL fans and players can start focusing on regular season Football. Sure, the season is already three weeks old and the Pittsburgh Steelers sit at a disappointing 1-2 going into the bye week, but Wednesday night the NFL and regular official finally reached an agreement to end their lockout.
In fact, with the new eight-year collective bargaining agreement in place between the league and the NFL Referees Association (NFLRA), the much maligned replacement officials are already back in the Division III ranks. That’s right, the regular officials will be in place starting with the Thursday night game between two AFC North foes, the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. This is an agreement that had to be reached as the integrity of the game was starting to become questioned by coaches, fans, and players. This especially became apparent after the second consecutive primetime Monday Night Football debacle that became a headline across the globe.
Of course, the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) still requires ratification by the NFLRA on Friday, and at this point appears to be on track. Although, the vote could be a lot closer than some expect with serious changes in the officials’ pension plans now on tap.
