The Pittsburgh Steelers have started their season tonight against the Philadelphia Eagles with an effective first half of action. As play resumes in the second half, the Steelers lead the Eagles 13-0.

The first team offense, led by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, started the scoring with long field goal drive in their first action in new offensive coordinator Todd Haley’s offense. In all, Roethlisberger overcame two sacks on the 15-play drive (7-of-8 passing for 49 yards).

Byron Leftwich relieved Roethlisberger and tossed a two-yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Sanders to stake the Steelers to a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter. The team expanded the lead to 13-0 after a second Shaun Suisham field goal.

Overall it was a lackluster first half that saw the rebuilt offensive line give up four sacks (2.5 by rookie tackle Mike Adams before he left with a knee injury) and struggles in the red zone.

Three Steelers left the game due to injury and will not return, Adams, running back Jonathan Dwyer (two carries for 40 yards)with a shoulder and tight end / fullback David Johnson.
