As the Pittsburgh Steelers continue training camp, the amount of bump and bruises continue to rise. On Saturday, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who earlier in the week raised some eyebrows with injury news from last season, left practice early after having one of his feet stepped on. First reports from head coach Mike Tomlin are that Roethlisberger is fine, it is always a concern when players leave early.
While Roethlisberger dodged a bullet, two starts did not return to practice Saturday after suffering injuries during the Friday practice. Potential starters Willie Colon (ankle) and Isaac Redman (groin) did not suit up and are listed as day-to-day.Of course, these players are better off that undrafted rookie free agent cornerback Terry Carter who was released on Friday after suffering a hamstring injury. Carter was one of the potential rookie sleepers we have profiled and potential practice squad candidate. The Steelers place Carter on the waived/injured list, meaning he has the ability to land on the injured reserve list for 2012 if no team claims him during the wavers process.
In his place, the team signed another player from Louisiana Tech, Josh Victorian. The 5-10, 190-pound defensive back was also an undrafted rookie free agent like Carter, originally signing with the Baltimore Ravens in 2010. He has also seen practice and camp time with the New England Patriots (practice squad) and New Orleans Saints (futures contract), but has not landed on an active roster in the NFL.
