Over the past two days, the Pittsburgh Steelers added three more pre-draft visitors to the list of player who have been to or are scheduled to meet with the team at their facilities. Those players come from both sides of the ball in Cincinnati RB Isaiah Pead, West Virginia CB Keith Tandy and Alabama LB Jerrell Harris. Every year, NFL teams are allowed 30 such visits (not including local college teams in direct market). Over this month leading up to the draft, we will keep a running tab on the player that the Steelers bring in and follow-up with a scouting report on each.
To this point, the Steelers have brought in or scheduled visits with these players:
Ohio State offensive tackle Mike Adams(Steelers101 profile 3/30)
Miami (Ohio) offensive guard Brandon Brooks (Steelers101 profile 4/1)
Regina defensive tackle Akiem Hicks
Florida International wide receiver T.Y. Hilton(Steelers101 profile 3/31)
Virginia defensive end Cam Johnson
Stanford long snapper Zach Nolan
Cincinnati defensive end Derek Wolfe
Colorado wide receiver Toney Clemons
West Virginia cornerback Keith Tandy
Alabama linebacker Jerrell Harris
Cincinnati running back Isaiah Pead
The next prospect we will look at is Colorado wide receiver Toney Clemons, who could be available when the Steelers are on the clock in the late rounds of the draft.
Clemons, a New Kensington native, is hoping to build upon a solid pro-day and rise up draft boards, where the 6-2, 210 pound wide out blistered the 40-yard dash with a laser-timed 4.36. This performance should have helped answer some question about the receiver who has been somewhat of a nomad in his college career, starting at Michigan before transferring to Colorado. During his time at Colorado (two seasons), he came into his own averaging 43 receptions for 634 yards and 5.5 touchdowns per season, while flashing some potential as a returner.
The Steelers are top heavy at wide receiver but may be looking to add some size, speed and return ability to their receiving corps in the draft. Clemons is a late round prospect that has a skill set that could develop into solid contributor.
