Beau Bennett will miss tonight's affair with the Edmonton Oilers because of an undisclosed injury. The 21-year old winger played barely seven minutes against Tampa Bay Saturday and missed Monday's practice. The injury is speculated to be of the lower body variety, but regardless of where it is, Beau will be on the bench for tonight and maybe even Thursday's Flyers game.
Bennett has two assists in five games this season and has looked brilliant on the second forward unit with Jokinen and Malkin. With Bennett sidelined, the Penguins had to get clever with their lines. Veteran Chuck Kobasew (two goals on the year) will be bumped up to play with Jussi Jokinen and Evgeni Malkin. Jokinen deson;t mind seeing Kobasew on the second unit, saying, "He's a really good two-way player who is a hard-nosed player that goes to the net and does all of those little things and can score goals and can make plays too."
While we're on injured second-liners, James Neal was placed on IR to make room for a AHL call-up. Harry Zolnierczyk will swing west from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to Pittsburgh and suit up for tonight's tilt. Zolnierczyk has three goals in three games for the Baby Pens and will likely replace Kobasew on the third line.
A quick Kris Letang note: he practiced with the team Monday for thirty minutes and has made real progress toward returning to the ice. Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said, "Kris is still in the progression of getting back to playing. This was another step up, a ramp up, in his practice and where he's at. He still needs to continue to progess to move toward a game."
Oilers young superstar Nail Yakupov will be a healthy scratch for the third straight game.
