After winning the first two games against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Philadelphia Phillies will send Roberto Hernandez to the mound (3-8, 4.48 ERA) for the sweep. The Brewers will oppose Hernandez with Kyle Lohse (9-3, 3.18). Lohse has won five of his last seven decisions. He is certainly the better of the two pitchers on the mound. Lohse is 3-0 with a 1.87 ERA against the Phillies in his career.
The Brewers’ division lead has shrunk to three games and they could use a few wins before the All-Star break. Ryan Braun, out with back spasms, could make a return to the lineup today and would provide the jolt the Brewers are looking for.
Ryan Howard is 11 for 25 in his career against Lohse and he’s also 4 for 40 with no home runs in his last 12 games. Chase Utley is 4 for 27 lifetime against Lohse and has been on a skid of his own in recent weeks, seeing his batting average drop to .292.
