On a night when the Philadelphia Phillies were losing an extra inning battle to the Baltimore Orioles, a former Phil was making his Baltimore Orioles debut. Left-handed pitcher Jamie Moyer was making his first start for the organization after clearing waivers and being released by the Colorado Rockies. While with the Rockiers, he posted a 5.70 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 53 2/3 innings.

In Triple-A Norfolk he pitched five shutout innings. He only allowed one hit and struck out five batters. Drew Silva of NBC Sports called Moyer’s control “pinpoint.”

Many don’t think that Moyer will perform well in the loaded American League East with his low-80s fastball. With some injury concerns in the Baltimore rotation, coupled with a few more good outings in the farm system, it wouldn’t be crazy to see the 49-year-old Moyer back in the majors soon enough.
