Philadelphia Phillies Closing in on Franchise Record for Wins

In 1976 and 1977 the Philadelphia Phillies managed to win 101 games. They were the only times the team has won 100 games in a single season. Now, in 2011 this team has a chance to be the best team in Phillies history.

Currently the Phillies sit at 93-48, with 21 games to play on the schedule. Easy money would say the Phillies will break the franchise record, as they are on pace to win over 105 games this year. In fact, this team may set the bar so high that it could be almost be impossible to break. Right now the team has a winning percentage of .660, and they are leading the entire MLB.

In my opinion this is clearly the best team in franchise history. Never before has a Phillies pitching staff even had close to this amount of talent. Not to mention that the lineup is full of veterans that have already won a ring, this is the strongest team that this franchise has ever produced.

While the goal is to bring another championship to Philadelphia, this team can also achieve something else that will be remembered for years to come, a 100 win season. It has been a goal of this Phillies team, and has even been guaranteed by Jimmy Rollins in the past. This season it looks like will finally be a reality, but it sets the expectations for the postseason that much higher.
