It's been almost a week and a half since the Philadelphia Flyers watched both Vinny Lecavalier and Scott Hartnell go down with injuries. Lecavalier's injury wasn't as serious as Hartnell's and he could be back in action this week.
An NHL.com report says that Lecavalier may be back as soon as Thursday. He has been out since the Flyers played the Phoenix Coyotes back on October 11. Lecavalier left with a lower body injury during the second period against the Coyotes. It never came out as to what the injury specifically was. However, Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.com thinks it may have been either a pulled groin or pulled abdominal.
The day after the Coyotes game, it was announced that Lecavalier would only miss a week of action. If he is able to return to the lineup on Thursday against the Rangers, it will be exactly two weeks missed, not one. Lecavalier also told Panaccio that he wants to play this week.
Lecavaliers says "hopeful I can play Thursday" vs NYR. Hartnell? Still a ways away— Tim Panaccio (@tpanotchCSN) October 20, 2013
When Lecavalier does come back, Michael Raffl will likely be sent back down to the Adirondack Phantoms as the Flyers would want to keep Tye McGinn around as long as possible since he is currently the leading scorer for the Flyers. The Flyers may try to work something out in order to keep McGinn up permanently if he continues to play well each game and keeps scoring.
Hartnell left the Coyotes game with an upper body injury in the first period after he felt something like a "stabbing pain" in his rib area. When he got to the bench, he was seen hunching over in a lot of pain. Hartnell was expected to miss at least two weeks and upwards of four weeks. Right now, his return is unknown because he has some pain when making his turns, but he is on schedule to return within the four week mark. However, if Lecavalier needed an extra week to rehab and return, it wouldn't be a surprise if Hartnell takes the extra time as well.
