It was announced Monday morning that Philadelphia Flyers' head coach Peter Laviolette has been fired after the team's 0-3-0 start. Laviolette took over as the Flyers' coach after John Stevens was fired back in December 2009.
Laviolette owned a 145-98-29 record as the Flyers' head coach over 5 different seasons. In his first year as coach of the Flyers, he lead the team to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in 6 games.
Laviolette will be succeeded by current Flyers' assistant coach Craig Berube. Berube has never coached at the NHL level, but was coach of the Philadelphia Phantoms for the first part of the 2006 season before being called up to be an assistant. He returned to coach the Phantoms in 2007-2008.
The Flyers will play Tuesday night at home against the Florida Panthers.
