The injury came in the second period when he was taken down from behind by Bryce Salvador, a Devils defenseman. Voracek was on a breakaway when Salvador took him down and caused him to slide hard into the left goal post. As soon as Voracek hit the post, you could tell that he had hurt his back.
A penalty shot was awarded to Voracek, however, he wasn't able to take a good shot due to the pain in his back. After the penalty shot, Voracek left the game and didn't return.
There are two preseason games left for the Flyers and their season starts next Wednesday in Philly when they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. Hopefully Voracek's injury isn't serious and that he will be ready to play by the season opener. If the injury is serious, the Flyers top line just took a huge hit.
Voracek going down with an injury came the same night that Claude Giroux came back from his hand injury. There was some doubt as to whether of not Giroux would even play tonight because he was still having trouble making plays and doing some things that he could normally do. There was even some doubt as to Giroux playing at all this preseason. His return is a good sign and hopefully Giroux doesn't have any problems with his hand when the season starts.
