The Philadelphia Eagles made most of their roster cuts on Saturday and finished making them today just before the NFL deadline to trim rosters to 75 players. The Eagles will have one more round of cuts on Saturday after the fourth preseason game to find their final 53 man roster. Here is a list of the players waived.
TE Blake Annen
OL Michael Bamiro
WR Kadron Boone
WR B.J. Cunningham
OL Donald Hawkins
TE Emil Igwenagu
LB Jake Knott
DE Joe Kruger
S Daytawion Lowe
DE Frances Mays
DB Davon Morgan
K Carey Spear
G/C Julian Vandervelde
DE Alejandro Villanueva
There are no real surprise cuts on the list. Wide receiver B.J. Cunningham was able to make some plays during training camp and preseason. He had a touchdown catch called back against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. The competition at wide receiver is so strong, it was difficult for Cunningham to find a spot.
Defensive end Alejandro Villanueva is the Army ranger who signed with the Eagles this offseason. He was a project players who made the most of his opportunity with the team but was unable to secure a roster spot.
Kicker Casey Spear, who goes by the nickname “Murderleg” did not live up to that tremendous name. He was brought into compete and push incumbent kicker Alex Henery but was unable to provide the necessary competition. Once the Eagles traded for Cody Parkey, Murderleg became expendable.
The Eagles will have one more preseason game to evaluate the rest of the roster before cuts are made Saturday. With most of the starting group sitting, the team will get an extended look at the players on the roster bubble.
