The Philadelphia Eagles beat the New York Giants 36-21 Sunday afternoon. However, that win came with a loss for the Eagles as Michael Vick left the game with a hamstring injury. Nick Foles came in to replace Vick and he put on a display that Eagles fans enjoyed.
It is not yet known how long Vick will be out for, but Howard Eskin reported that Vick is likely going to sit out at least their next game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, the team is in a good place after Foles’ performance against the Giants. But, here is the main question: with Vick being out for the next game and if Foles puts on another good display, who will the starting quarterback be for the rest of the season?
Chip Kelly said in his post-game press conference that there is no quarterback controversy and that Vick is the starter. He said that before a reporter could even finish the question. However, Foles’ performance against the Giants says otherwise.
When Vick was playing, he completed six of his 14 passes for 105 yards and no touchdowns. When Foles came in to replace Vick, Foles completed 16 of his 25 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Just last week, Foles came in against the Denver Broncos and threw for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. It only took him three completed passes for that when Vick never threw for a touchdown.
Foles almost beat out Vick for the starting job after playing extremely well in the preseason. Now that Foles put up good numbers in half of a game and has a chance to show what he’s got in a full game, the quarterback controversy is set to begin, whether Chip Kelly thinks so or not, if Foles and the Eagles win next week.
Can history repeat itself? The last time Foles started a game was against the Buccaneers last season. He won. If they win next week, do they continue to start the winning quarterback? Let the waiting game… and quarterback controversy… begin.
