The Philadelphia Eagles have been struggling lately as they have lost their past three games. The New York Giants are in the same boat as they haven't won a game yet this season. This will be a "turnaround" game for both teas. But, what do the Eagles need to do to win?
STOP THE GIANTS OFFENSE
There is a reason this is the first key to an Eagles victory. The defense has fallen apart since the first half of the Washington Redskins game. They showed up and played well during the first half, but we haven't seen the same defense since. The biggest problem is in the Eagles secondary. We knew there was problems in that department, but Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos tore them apart and really showed their weakness. Now the Eagles are going up against his brother, Eli Manning, who is also a dangerous quarterback. Eli has his two weapons in Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz. Although the Giants have been struggling, if Eli gets hot with those two, the Eagles defense is no match.
GET TO ELI
The Eagles linebackers and defensive lineman need to get to Eli early in the game and continue to get to him throughout the game. If they are able to get him out of the pocket, he will have limited options. If they can stop Eli, then the Eagles won't have to worry about him torching the secondary.
OFFENSE NEEDS TO FINISH DRIVES
This is probably the most important key to an Eagles victory.
The Eagles have had 430 or more yards in each of their four games, but have only won once. Getting yards isn't going to win games. Finishing drives with touchdowns is. They Eagles also need to run the offense as full speed. Over the past few weeks, it seems as if they have slowed things down to an average pace like we are used to seeing. When watching them in the Redskins game, we could see how fast the offense was and how tired it made their opposing defense. If they can bring that speed back up, it would tire an already struggling Giants defense.
DESEAN JACKSON, THE PUNT RETURNER
Remember this? It's that bad memory for the Giants and their fans that they just can't get out of their heads. Well, it doesn't help that we keep reminding them of this amazing punt return. This is the game that the Eagles need to take advantage of with their special teams.
McCoy is having a great season and is on pace to set career best numbers. Jackson has been playing well even though he hasn't done much in the past two games. However, both players usually go big against the Giants. With Jackson's speed, he should easily beat the struggling Giants secondary. Look for Michael Vick to hit up Jackson quite a few times. Look for McCoy to have his best game of the season against the Giants. Losing Osi Umenyiora hurt the Giants defense. Now with a sub-par defense and linebacker core, McCoy shouldn't have a problem running all over the Giants defense.
