The Philadelphia Eagles secondary is hurting, both physically and on the field. They are only four games into the season, and besides the overall poor play from the secondary, injuries have been a contributing factor.
Free safety Patrick Chung and cornerback Brandon Boykin have been sidelined at practice with shoulder injuries. Chung suffered his injury during the Kansas City Chiefs game. The injury caused him to miss the Eagles game against the Denver Broncos. Boykin sustained a shoulder contusion during the Broncos game. Both Chung and Boykin were limited in practice yesterday.
There is some good news today though as Boykin was expected to participate fully in practice. With a secondary that seems to be falling apart, the return of Boykin will be a welcomed one because the Eagles need every player healthy in order to start to turn this sloppy season around. The only reason why Boykin was limited in practice yesterday was for precautionary reasons as they didn't want Boykin aggravating his shoulder with the team practicing in full pads.
The bad news that came today is that Chung is still limited at practice. Chung hasn't be able to practice since hurting his shoulder during the Chiefs game. Even if he is able to practice fully, it doesn't look like he would be able to play against the New York Giants on Sunday anyway because he missed too much preparation time for the game. He also hasn't been medically cleared to be a full participant in practice and to play. It looks like Earl Wolff will fill in for Chung again this Sunday against the Giants.
