Floyd was carted off of the field in the third quarter of the Eagles-Chargers game and was immobilized by a backboard. Video of the hit showed Floyd's neck compress as Ryans made contact. Thankfully, Floyd didn't have any serious damage done as it could be seen that he was moving his extremities. However, he will miss about a month of the season as he recovers. San Diego certainly is going to rush him back and they might even make him sit out longer just to make sure he is healthy.
Floyd caught the intended pass as he was coming over the middle of the field. Coming across the middle is one of the more dangerous routes in the game because it is where hard collisions mostly happen. That is exactly the fact with the hit Ryans put on Floyd.
However, when watching the replay of the hit, you can see that while Floyd was being tackled, he dropped his head as Ryans came in. That put him in a vulnerable position that Ryans couldn't avoid when made contact. The video also shows that Ryans led with his shoulder and made no indication he was aiming for Floyd's head.
The league believed that Floyd was in a defenseless position and that the hit warranted a fine.
