It would be understandable if the negative forecast about the Philadelphia 76ers “tanking” this year affected the team’s morale, especially the younger players.
Two blowout preseason losses by double digits thus far to the Charlotte Bobcats and the Brooklyn Nets doesn’t help. But in their defense, the 76ers didn't use their three main players, Evan Turner, Thaddeus Young, and Spencer Hawes.
Despite the media rant, the 76ers led by coach Brett Brown have a tunnel vision. Their main concerns are team rebuilding, improving confidence, refining their current talents and developing young players.
"It's not going to be a fake relationship, not a false environment," Brown said. "It's real, and we have to get better, end of the story."
The 76ers continues to have long practices. Definitely both their offense and defense needs improvement. They need players who can score in the low post, shoot better, drive more to the basket, get to the free throw line and improve their field goal percentage.
There are still have two more preseason games, Monday against Cleveland in Columbus and Wednesday at the Wells Fargo Center against Minnesota. Then they opens against top-ranked Miami Heat on October 30th.
So maybe the 76ers don’t read the sporting news or listen to the sports programs that continue to rank them at the bottom, but maybe they don’t care.
Young believes, "Everybody is still highly confident."
