The Oakland Raiders have made several roster moves in order to get down to the NFL limit of 75 players. As reported earlier, the team has officially placed cornerback DJ Hayden on the physically unable to perform list. In addition, the Raiders have made seven other moves.
Oakland has placed tight end Nick Kasa on the injured reserve ending his season. He tore is ACL earlier in the year. The team has waived wide receiver Juron Criner and released fourth quarterback Trent Edwards. The Raiders have waived/injured three players including running back Kory Sheets, wide receiver Greg Jenkins, and safety Larry Asante. Finally the team has waived guard Lucas Nix for failing a physical. The moves bring the Raiders to 75 players for the fourth preseason game Thursday.
There are no real surprise moves here by the Raiders. It was time for Oakland to part ways with former 2012 sixth-round pick Juror Criner. Even though Criner burst onto the scene as a rookie and made some highlight players early, he never developed. He dealt with injuries that stunted his growth and was passed out by the rest of the receiving corps. They only reason this move has any interest is because he was a former draft pick.
The rest of the moves are mostly injury related besides Edwards, who has the fourth quarterback and did not see any preseason action. Running back Kory Sheets torn his Achilles in the last preseason game which ended his season. He was making an impression before the injury as he battled for a spot on the final roster.
The Raiders will have to trim the roster down to the final 53 by Saturday.
