In the 2014 NFL Draft, the Raiders went heavy on the defensive side of the ball picking six defensive players and two offensive players. As far as the undrafted signings, 10 of 11 are on the offensive side of the ball. The Raiders did not select a wide receiver in the NFL Draft, which came as a slight surprise, but the team added four as free agents. They also bring in legacy with running back George Atkinson III, who is the son of former Raiders great George Atkinson.
Of all the free agent signings, some of these wide receivers are very interesting. Mike Davis of Texas has good size at 6-0, 197 pounds. Davis was really hurt in college by bad quarterback play at Texas, but still found ways to be productive. He made 38 starts and appeared in 49 games with 200 career receptions and 18 touchdowns. Davis was unable to run and jump at the NFL Combine because of a foot injury.
Wide receiver DJ Coles of Virginia Tech has nice size at 6-3, 225 pounds. He has some knee issues that prevented him from being drafted. Coles had 25 catches and six scores in 2013. Noel Grigsby of San Jose State was ultra-productive in college. The 5-10, 185 pound receiver holds the San Jose State record in receiving yards, receptions, and touchdowns. Seth Roberts of West Alabama is 6-2, 196 pounds with some speed. He caught 12 touchdowns in 2013.
The undrafted free agents and 2014 draft picks will all be on hand for the Raider rookie mini-camp which begins today. A total of 23 players will participate, looking to make a good impression with the coaching staff and begin to earn their spot on the roster.
