With the Pro Bowl set for this Sunday, the teams are being selected by Hall of Fame players Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders. This is the first year for the new format where two general managers, in this case Rice and Sanders, selected players regardless of conference ties. The first part of the Pro Bowl Draft began and Oakland Raiders fullback Marcel Reece ended up with team Sanders.

Rice had the first opportunity to select a fullback and choose Mike Tolbert of the Carolina Panthers. Because there are only two fullbacks selected to the Pro Bowl, Reece was assigned to Sanders team.

“That's who we wanted,” Sanders said when he got Reece in the draft. “We love him because he is not getting the ball. All we want him to do is block.”

Sanders has the mentality some former Raiders offensive coordinators had when it comes to Reece who is such a versatile weapon for the Raiders, but has not been used to his full potential in the offense. He finished the 2013 season with 32 receptions for 331 yards and two touchdowns. He also carried 46 times for 218 yards and another two scores. He is the only Raider this season to have both a rushing and receiving  touchdown.

The NFL is trying anything to get the Pro Bowl back to where it is watchable. This is the first year for the new draft format. It seems ridiculous, but the final verdict will come Sunday when the drafted teams line up for the NFL's all-star game.
