The Oakland Raiders got both running back Darren McFadden and safety Charles Woodson to participate fully in Friday's practice. They are listed as probable for the San Diego Chargers game this Sunday.
McFadden has the chance to play for the first time since the Thanksgiving match-up against the Dallas Cowboys. McFadden has been on the shelf with hamstring and ankle injuries this season. It has been a negative for him his entire career because he has never played in every game for a season. He is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season so if he can play this week it will be one of his last two opportunities to showcase for a contract with the Raiders or more likely another NFL team. He has only carried the ball 103 times this year for 365 yards and four touchdowns.
Rashad Jennings remains the Oakland starting running back regardless of McFadden's status. Jennings has been the far superior back this season with 679 yards and six touchdowns. Last time both backs were healthy Jennings carried 17 times while McFadden only rushed five times. The Raiders rushing offense is ranked 6th in the NFL with more than 134 yards per game. Both Jennings and McFadden should see running room against a San Diego rush defense that allows almost 109 yards per game.
Safety Charles Woodson was able to practice in full on Friday despite his ribs injury. With Tyvon Branch and Usama Young on injured reserve, it is crucial for the Raiders to have Woodson on Sunday. The Chargers are fourth in the NFL is passing yards per game with 279.5 yards per game. Woodson returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown in the Raiders 27-17 win over the Chargers earlier in the year.
Defensive tackle Vance Walker is listed as questionable for the game. He has been dealing with a concussion and was able to practice on a limited basis Friday. He will continue to be evaluated and has some tests to pass before he can play. He will be a game time decision.
