“Obviously, very disappointed in the way that we played,” Allen said. “I’ve got to do a better job of making sure our team is emotionally, physically, mentally prepared and ready to go. Obviously, we didn’t hold up our end of the bargain. We also realize that we’re a better football team than what we displayed out there today and we have to be better than that. We’ll go back to work. We'll get ready to go up to New York and compete against the New York Giants and we’ll put a better product on the field. Just really, overall, disappointed. Defensively – way, way too many explosive plays down the field. ”
Execution was the difference between the two teams. The Eagles and Foles were in total sync offensively. He offensive line protected him well and his receivers made plays for him. On the other side, the Raiders defense continued to blow assignment and Foles made them pay. The Raiders allowed eight plays to go for 20 or more yards. Five of Foles seven touchdowns were from 15 or more yards. The Eagles came into the game not having scored a touchdown in two weeks, then Foles comes out and ties and NFL record for touchdown passes in a single game.
“I don’t think Nick Foles had seen anything on film that would give him any indication he that he’d throw for seven touchdowns,” Charles Woodson said. “But in this league it doesn’t matter who the quarterback is, if he’s able to sit back and make throws and we give him some throws down field, then he’s going to make those plays. Nobody thought today that he’d come in and have this kind of day.”
Offensively the Raiders accumulated 560 yards on an unbelievable 92 plays. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor was 22-41 for 288 yards and two interceptions. He still has a long way to go as a passer. He still shows tremendous ability to get away from defenders and extend plays. He rushed 10 times for 94 yards against the Eagles. He was without running back Darren McFadden, who exited early in the second quarter after tweaking his hamstring injury. Rashad Jennings filled in well with 15 rushes for 102 yards and seven receptions for 74 yards. Despite the yardage, the offense only scores 20 points and seven came in the last minute of the game. The entire unit needs more consistency.
“I thought his mobility and his ability to scramble around and make some plays down the field,” Allen said of Pryor. “We still have to continue to work to get better in the pocket and continue to develop our passing game. I think our passing game is an area we have to continue to work to improve. So yeah, I thought there was some ups and downs. I think when you look at this game and the manner in which it was played, it’s hard for me to say that there was a lot of positives in any regard.”
Oakland will fly across the country this week to take on the New York Giants, who are winners on two in a row after a 0-6 start.
