The Philadelphia Eagles have used three different quarterbacks this season. Michael Vick came into the season as the starting quarterback, but a hamstring injury has put him on the shelf. Nick Foles took over, but missed last week's game with a concussion. Oakland Raiders 2013 NFL Draft target Matt Barkley came in when both Vick and Foles were injured.
On Sunday, the Eagles will go with Foles as the starting quarterback. He was cleared to practice this week and has been tabbed as the starter. In the new Chip Kelly offense, Foles has had some success. He relieved Vick against the New York Giants and went 16-25 for 197 yards and two touchdowns. He started the next week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, completing 22-31 for 296 yards and four scores. The made his second start the next week against the Dallas Cowboys, but left the game with the concussion. Before he got his bell rung, Foles completed just 11-29 for only 80 yards. Two of those three games the Eagles won.
Foles has some consistency issues. He has been very good at times and very average at times. He has yet to throw an interception this season. The Eagles offense under Kelly likes to mix in some read option. Foles is far less dangerous than Vick, but will run to keep the defense honest. His best running game came against the Cowboys when he rushed three times for 25 yards.
“I hadn’t seen a whole lot of difference as far as the things they do, what they do,” Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said of the Eagles offense with Foles starting. “Obviously, Michael Vick has that added dimension with his athleticism and speed, but they’re still trying to spread you out, taking advantage of match-ups, trying to get the box unloaded so they can run the ball and get LeSean McCoy going. What they do schematically really hadn’t changed a whole lot.”
