Like most NFL teams at this point in the season, the Oakland Raiders are trying to get as healthy as possible. The team got linebacker Miles Burris back at practice Wednesday for the first time this season. They also welcomed back tackle Menelik Watson, who has only practiced a handful of times this year due to a calf injury.
Burris, who has been on the physically unable to perform list all season because of offseason knee surgery, was healthy enough to practice Wednesday. Last season, the rookie fourth round pick started all 16 games. This is just the first step of many to get him back on the field to contribute. It is unknown what his status will be for Sunday. The Raiders revamped the linebacker position this offseason and it has been a strength of the defense. Burris will be brought along, most likely on special teams first and then providing depth at all three linebacker positions.
Watson would be an important addition to the battered Raiders offensive line. He played in one preseason game and just a few practices before he re-aggravated the calf injury and has been out since. The Raiders have used Tony Pashos, who missed practice again Wednesday, and Matt McCants in his absence. He will be worked in at left tackle but will get snaps on both sides.
Another offensive linemen the Raiders are eager to get back is left tackle Jared Veldheer. He has been on injured reserve with the designation to return all year after tearing his triceps in the preseason. He met with doctors in Los Angeles Monday and will begin increased rehab. It is still a week to week situation, but he is getting closer to a return.
Oakland's opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles, got quarterback Nick Foles back at practice this week. Foles missed last week's game with a concussion but has been cleared to practice and will start Sunday in Oakland. With Michael Vick on the shelf with a hamstring, Foles is the guy with USC's Matt Barkley the number two. Barkley was a target for the Raider in this year's NFL Draft, but the Eagles traded up to get him.
