The Oakland Raiders received a much need boost along the offensive line today when center Stefen Wisniewski returned to practice Wednesday. Wisniewski missed the last two weeks with a knee injury, but participated today in a limited fashion.
“All signs are that he will be ready to go,” Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said of Wisniewski.
In the Raiders last game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the offensive line had a part in 10 sacks of quarterback Terrelle Pryor. With the potential return of Wisniewski some of those deficiencies can be relieved. He handles so much of the communication along the offensive line as well as protection adjustments and calls.
The bye week was not as kind to other members of the offensive line. Tackles Menelik Watson and Tony Pashos were still unable to practice Wednesday. As the weeks go by, it appears Watson may not be able to help the Raiders this season. Linebacker Kaluka Maiava, safety Tyvon Branch, and center Andre Gurode were also not able to go. Cornerback Tracy Porter was limited today.
The Raiders host the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday, a team that has only eight sacks all season. However, the Steelers have four of those eight sacks in the last two games, both of which resulted in wins.
