The Oakland Raiders have claimed linebacker Martez Wilson off waivers from the New Orleans Saints and released second year defensive tackle Christo Bilukidi. Wilson was waived yesterday by the Saints after playing three years with the team.
Wilson was drafted in the third round of the 2011 draft out of Illinois. He ran the fastest 40 yard dash time for a linebacker at the 2011 NFL Combine with a blistering 4.49 seconds. The 6-4, 250 pound Wilson has the versatility to play both linebacker and defensive end. He played both in his time with the Saints. In his three years with the team, Wilson appeared in 33 games with one start. He has 25 tackles, five sacks, and a forced fumble for his career.
The Raiders have parted ways with Bilukidi to make room for Wilson. The former sixth round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft played in 18 games for Oakland, including five this season. So far this year, he had recorded five tackles and one sack.
Wilson played some special teams for the Saints so he could help the Raiders immediately in that aspect. It is unknown when he will become active and begin practicing for the Raiders, but this is another move in line with Oakland continuing to rebuild their linebacking corps and pass rush.
