The Oakland Raiders announced they are placing tight end David Ausberry on the injured reserve today, ending his season before it began. To fill his spot on the roster, Oakland promoted guard Lamar Mady from the practice squad to the active roster.
Ausberry injured his shoulder in the Raiders second preseason game and has been unable to practice or play since. The hope was he would be able to return as soon as this week, but the team placed him on injured reserve and he is gone for the year. Without Ausberry, the Raiders have relied on Jeron Mastrud and rookie Mychal Rivera at tight end. Mastrud is a solid blocking tight end and Rivera is second on the team with five catches netting 58 yards.
Mady was signed by the Raiders as an undrafted free agent and remained with the team until final cuts. Now he will be a member of the Raiders active roster providing depth at guard and potentially some special teams playing time.
