The Oakland Raiders have announced a three year contract extension with fullback Marcel Reece. Reece has played his entire six year career with the Raiders and it will continue for the next three seasons. The Raiders do not disclose the financial terms of contracts.
Last season, Reece filled in tremendously when running back Darren McFadden went down with injury. In three out of the four games he replaced McFadden, Reece has able to account for over 100 yards rushing and receiving combined. He is a match-up nightmare for opposing defenses due to his size, speed, and pass catching ability. He is too strong for cornerbacks and too fast for linebackers. The problem the Raiders offense has run into is not being able to consistently get Reece the football.
With the three year extension, Reece can be a more focal point of the offense. Now that quarterback Terrelle Pryor has earned the starting role, he can begin to build a connection with Reece and use him as the weapon he has the potential to be. In the season opener, Reece only caught one ball for nine yards. Look for more production as he and Pryor gain experience together and find a rapport.
The Raiders completed their final full practice today before hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Tight end David Ausberry is still unable to practice with his shoulder injury and will be out for Sunday. Tackle Menelik Watson is also out Sunday with his knee injury and linebacker Kaluka Maiava is questionable.
