Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor will make his third career start this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It will be the first time he suits up for a regular season game with the Raider faithful behind him.
“I feed off of it, but it’s going to be our electricity instead of trying to quiet the other team’s crowd, so I’ll feed off it, and it’s going to give me another reason to get excited and it’s going to get me ready for the game,” Pryor said. “It still shouldn’t be different. I’ve still got to handle my job and get guys in and out of the huddle and on the line so we can get our work done.”
Pryor will need to keep that energy up because his teammates feel it and respond. The Raiders have a tendency to play down or up to their competition. On Sunday that energy, excitement, and leadership will suit them well against a Jaguars defense that gave up 121 rushing yards a week ago to the Kansas City Chiefs. Pryor used his legs to rush for 112 yards against the Indianapolis Colts, so he could have opportunities to move the offense on the ground again. Jacksonville only allowed 171 passing yards in their blowout 28-2 loss.
Against a pretty good Jaguar's pass defense and defensive coordinators trying to contain him from running, Pryor is going to have to make more plays with his arm. As he develops as a quarterback, he has studied how other quarterbacks around the NFL use their skills and adapted them to his own game.
“The one step drop off of [Tom] Brady,” Pryor said. “Just being balanced I believe that gives me 100% more accuracy because I’m just always balanced on the football field. He’s a guy I really like to watch and understand his techniques. I like Robert Griffin’s ball fakes, I stole some of Kaepernick’s ball fakes. It’s just what it is. They do great things, why not try to emulate it and be great and put it in your own style?”
This is a big home game coming for the Raiders to show how much improvement they have made since last season. If they are going to be a competitive team this season, they need to win this game at home. The crowd will provide a boost to Pryor, who will be a huge part of the team's success Sunday. He looks to have great energy and leadership to guide and put it into practice against the Jaguars.
