Sports Illustrated first reported that Tuitt will enter the draft. He will leave a sizable void along the Fighting Irish defensive front, which also loses defensive tackle Louis Nix. Both were huge parts of Notre Dame's national title run last season and both are possible first round selections in April.

Tuitt leaves Notre Dame with 21.5 career sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss. In 2012, he amassed 12 sacks which was 1.5 shy of now New York Giants' defensive end Justin Tuck's school record and three shy of his career record for sacks.

To start the 2013 season Tuitt was slowed by offseason sports hernia surgery and came into the season heavy. The 6'6", 320 pound end played his way back into shape and flourished as the year went forward. He recorded six sacks in the regular season and added 1.5 in the Pinstripe Bowl win against Rutgers.

The void left by Tuitt and Nix will be significant. Notre Dame will look to get more contributions from Jarron Jones and Sheldon Day, who both saw plenty of time this year.
