The Arizona Coyotes have signed center Christian Dvorak to a six-year extension worth $26.7 million with an AAV of $4.45 million per year. This contract will begin in the 2019-20 season, He is currently in the final year of his three-year entry-level contract.
“We are very pleased to sign Christian to a long-term contract,” said Coyotes general manager John Chayka to NHL.com. “Christian is a highly skilled, reliable, two-way center who continues to improve each season. He will be a key player for us in the future and we are thrilled to have him with us for the next seven seasons.”
Dvorak has spent his entire two-year career with the Coyotes. He has scored 30 goals along with 40 assists for 70 career points in 156 NHL games. He was originally drafted in the second round, 58th overall, in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Coyotes.
Last season he scored 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 78 games. He also added 22 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 49.2 percent Corsi-For with a relative Corsi of +0.9.
During his two years with the OHL London Knights, he put 41 goals in 2014-15 campaign and 51 goals the following year, helping the Knights to the OHL Championship and Memorial Cup. He led the OHL in goals during the 2015-16 season along with being named to the OHL First All-Star Team.
Dvorak has been a key part of the Coyotes in his first two years. He finished third in goals (15), fifth in points (37) and was second in faceoff percentage (51.4%). Extending Dvorak gives the Coyotes another strong centre. Dvorak is projected to be the third line center after the Coyotes went out and acquired Alex Galchenyuk from the Montreal Canadiens. He also finished fifth among forwards on the Coyotes with 92 hits last year.
