According to the Ducks, Rakell tweaked his ankle during Wednesday’s game and did not practice today. He was seen leaving the arena in a walking boot.
So far this season, Rakell has scored five goals and 15 assists for 20 points to go along with six minutes in penalties in 30 games played. His possession numbers were 48.4 percent Corsi-For and a relative Corsi of +5.1.
Rakell has spent his entire seven-year NHL career with the Anaheim Ducks. He has 101 goals and 117 assists for 218 career points in 343 career NHL games. He was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks 30th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
What This Means for the Future
Rakell has been a huge part of the Ducks offence over the past two years. He is coming off back-to-back seasons of at least 30 goals. He led the team last year in goals and points. Rakell also isn’t afraid to their the body around as he recorded 115 hits last season. On the powerplay, Rakell also led the team with 10 power play goals last season. Newly acquired winger Daniel Sprong will move up to the first line in Rakell’s absence. The Ducks are still without another one of their top scorers as Corey Perry is still out recovering from off-season surgery and Patrick Eaves is recovering from broken ribs.
The Ducks currently sit in second place in the Pacific Division three points behind the Calgary Flames. Moving forward the Ducks will hope for the best when it comes to Rakell as he’s one of their key pieces in their line-up.
