Jon Heyman of CBS Sports says the Red Sox are still "heavily involved" and are attempting to beat out all the teams vying for Castillo's services:
Boston remains "heavily involved" according to people familiar with the situation, and executives with other interested teams suggest the Red Sox are the favorite to win Castillo's services.
Heyman also notes a report by Gorden Edes of ESPNBoston.com, which said the Red Sox and Detroit Tigers were the favorites to land Castillo. Heyman does say the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners are also interested.
The problem for the Yankees in all of this is that there hasn't been much good news to report in the Castillo rumor mill to separate them from the rest of the pack.
Yes, the Yankees have been involved since day one for Castillo and have been figured to be favorites with their financial situation, but with all the information coming from sources inside the industry, there has been almost no evidence of the Bronx Bombers emerging as realistic favorites for any other reason but their deep pockets.
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports also reported that the Yanks weren't likely to place a bid on the higher end, thus making it clear that Castillo would have to take less in order to play in the Bronx.

Don't expect that to happen with Castillo being apart of Roc Nation and just breaking into the big leagues.
More than likely the Yankees and general manager Brian Cashman won't be making the late-season splash that Castillo would bring to the team.
