Mark Teixeira has been held out of the New York Yankees lineup since Wednesdat night after sliding into home plate against the Detroit Tigers and having his left pinky catch the cleat of the catcher, which forced three stitches on the finger.

After missing Thursday, Friday and Saturday's games to rest the hand since the joints were still sore, Yankees manager Joe Girardi has put Teixeira back into the lineup for the team on Sunday against the Cleveland Indians, as per the Yankees official Twitter.

Teixeira will bat in the cleanup spot for the Yankees in their series finale against Cleveland at Yankee Stadium and take his customary spot in the infield at first base. Chase Headley had been playing first base with Teixeira out, but Girardi will give Headley a day off and play Martin Prado at third on Sunday.

Teixeira in 84 games is hitting .230 with 19 home runs and 52 RBI this season for the Yankees. His return to the lineup is much needed, especially since the Yankees just put Brian McCann on the seven-day concussion disabled list on Saturday.
