New York Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with what is being called right elbow inflammation, according to manager Joe Girardi.

The YES Network broke the news that was made public by Girardi before Wednesday night's game versus the Cleveland Indians:

Girardi also mentioned the next course of action before Tanaka and the Yankees decide what to do next:

Bleacher Report's Will Carroll contradicts that news by saying Tanaka's elbow actually passed tests already and that the inflammation is in his forearm instead:

Tanaka was roughed up for five runs on 10 hits in his last outing on Tuesday night and mentioned he had some discomfort after the loss:

George A. King III of the New York Post first reported that Tanaka is having the MRI on his arm back in New York.

Catcher Brian McCann didn't seem to notice anything wrong with Tanaka during the start:

No starter has been announced for Sunday to replace Tanaka as of yet:

Tanaka is 12-4 on the season with a 2.51 ERA in his rookie campaign. Not only has he been one of the Yankees best pitchers in 2014, but one of the best in Major League Baseball.

His trip to the DL means that now 80 percent of the Yanks rotation has spent time on the shelf this season, with CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova being out for the rest of the season. Michael Pineda is still scheduled to come back sometime in August, but he's a big wild card himself.

Taking his spot on the roster is Zoilo Almonte, who has already seen some time with the big-league club this season.
