CC Sabathia will throw a bullpen session today as he works his was back from a right knee injury. Sabathia was injured on May 10 while pitching against the Milwaukee Brewers and was placed on the DL the next day.

Sabathia who has missed the last six weeks with the knee ailment received a stem cell cell injection from Dr. James Andrews back in May. Sabathia was diagnosed with a "degenerative" knee condition and has been working way back from the injury, Sabathia threw a bullpen session Monday and the results were positive. Sabathia threw mostly fastballs and changeups as he threw his first pen session since being placed on the DL.

Wednesday's pen session will be a little more involved as he plans to mix in some more pitches, including his slider. Sabathia is eager to return and feels he get back on the mound sooner than later. "I've been throwing the whole time," Sabathia said. "I feel pretty good. Obviously you have to be cautious, not wanting to hurt my arm, but we'll see…hopefully we can skip some steps."

The fact that Sabathia is feeling well and is optimistic for an early return are encouraging, but the Yankees have no official timetable for his return. New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi compares Sabathia's rehab to a Spring Training regimen. If that in fact is the case the Yankees could be looking at a return closer to early to mid August.

We don't really have a time frame with him yet. He'll throw another bullpen session {on Wednesday}, and then we'll just continue to increase the amount of pitches and pitches that he throws. You kind of just go day by day, for me, with him. If he gets through tomorrow, then he'll probably throw another bullpen, and we'll increase the number there. He gets through that, eventually he starts to see hitters, and then you get him in the game. So it's really just taking one step at a time.
