The injuries continue to mount for the New York Yankees in 2014. The news didn't get too much better on Thursday as first baseman Mark Teixeira was diagnosed with inflammation in his troublesome right wrist.
For the most part, news of inflammation in a wrist is not of much concern. But for Yankees fans it is, especially when it's the wrist of Mark Teixeira. Teixeira who first injured the wrist in 2012, missed 147 games in 2013, only appearing in 15 games for the Yanks. Teixera had off-season surgery this winter and has been slow to make a full recovery.
Teixera who had his surgically repaired right wrist examined on Thursday by Dr. Keith Raskin, is officially listed as day to day. Teixeira who has been fighting to come back from the surgery since Spring Training, admitted at the time that it would be a long process and it has been. Teixeira also stated that the stiffness in his wrist would probably linger for most of the season, that has also proven to be true.
Besides battling his wrist for most of the year, Teixeira had an early DL stint this season with a hamstring issue. He hasn't played since being scratched on Monday for the Yankees matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Yankees and doctor's are hoping this latest ailment isn't too severe. Teixeira is still considered day to day as he fights the swelling and stiffness in his wrist.
Since Teixeira has been on the shelf the Yankees have been scrambling, a bit, too fill the void. On Wednesday, catcher Brian McCann made his first Major League start at first. McCann who has made three appearances this season as a late inning replacement at first, hasn't started a game at first base since high school. "I feel comfortable for a game," McCann said.
Teixeira has performed well this year when he has been able to play. Big Tex has been solid with 9 home runs and 35 RBI so far on the young season. If all goes well, the Yankees are hoping to have Tex back at some point this weekend. The Yankees will host the Minnesota Twins for a three game set beginning on Friday at 7:05 pm.Tags: Baseball, MLB, New York, New York Yankees
