On Friday afternoon, Mike Francesa of WFAN invited New York Daily News sports writer Michael O'Keefe into his studio to debate the current issue surrounding New York Yankees third basemen Alex Rodriguez and his ongoing arbitration case with Major League Baseball.
Rodriguez is currently battling MLB to get his 211-game suspension handed down to him back in August either overturned or reduced, while the league is trying to get to stand in court and there have been two different sides as to how each feels about the situation.
There are the pro-MLB supporters like the New York Daily News and their writers like O'Keefe or Bill Madden, who continue to try and crucify A-Rod every single chance they get when a piece of news comes their way, and then there are those who try to come in defense for A-Rod and point out that he's being singled out by the sport, something Francesa has done in the past.
On Friday, the two sides came to verbal blows in a 40-minute heated debate and argued their sides and opinions in what many have called one of most "must-listen" segments in recent radio. During the debate, Francesa calls out O'Keefe for trying to bash and crucify A-Rod at every single chance they could get, calls out baseball for buying stolen evidence and documents from the Miami Biogenesis clinic and also called out baseball for looking the other way for paying $125,000 in cash to Anthony Bosch, who is being investigated for providing performance enhancing drugs (PED's) to minors and children.
O'Keefe tried as best as he could to not only hold his own in studio against the very dominating personality in Francesa, especially face-to-face in studio, but defend every story he and his colleagues have ever written and published in their newspaper.
But Francesa made a very valid point in which we at Yankees 101 fully support; Major League Baseball, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig and Chief Operating Officer Rob Manfred have singled out A-Rod in this investigation, especially considering they decided to suspend A-Rod for 211 games, while 12 players received a 50-game suspension and Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun received a 65-game suspension in the summer.
