The Alex Rodriguez hearing is to resume today and MLB chief operating officer Robert Manfred will testify regarding allegations made by the Rodriguez camp against MLB, according to multiple ESPNNewYork.com sources.
Ironically, the three man panel that is hearing the case includes Manfred, Players' Association legal counsel David Prouty and arbitrator Frederic Horowitz. Rodriguez has brought a lawsuit against MLB regarding what he calls their over zealous pursuit of him which stems from an unprecedented possible 211-game suspension from baseball.
Manfred was the one who spear-headed the Biogenesis investigation that led to 12 players getting suspended from baseball. 11 on a 50-game suspension and Milwaukee Brewer Ryan Braun receiving 65-games.
Some of the items Manfred will testify about is whether MLB intimidated witnesses, paid Anthony Bosch the head of the Biogenesis clinic, $5 million in exchange for his cooperation with the investigation including providing any evidence.
The idea of Manfred testifying is to lay to rest all the rumors that MLB made it personal regarding Alex Rodriguez. Manfred was only mentioned once in the 32 page filing by the Rodriguez camp stating, "Rob Manfred . . . publicly attacked Mr. Rodriguez and requested permission to disseminate his medical records."
Back in August of this year Manfred publicly handed A-Rod's attorney Joe Tacopina a letter offering to waive the confidentiality clause in baseball's collective bargaining agreement, allowing them to make public Alex Rodriguez's medical records.
Rodriguez is also suing New York Yankees medical staff for misdiagnosis of his hip injury in the summer of 2012.
