Warren will be making his second Major League start the first coming against the Chicago White Sox on June 29. It was a rough one with Warren just going 2 1/3 innings and giving up six earned runs. The young right-hander, however, has done well coming out of the bullpen this year in 58 innings striking out 46 with an ERA at 3.57. This start was supposed to feature Andy Pettitte, but with the doubleheader yesterday they decided to give Andy an extra day of rest and use Warren instead.
Toronto's Dickey, since coming off a career year last year, has been a disappointment compiling a record of 9-11, 4.49 ERA and 27 home runs allowed the most in his Major League career.
The Blue Jays have lost 11 straight and have an overall record at the new Yankee Stadium of 11-33.
Meanwhile, the Yankees want to keep rolling along 8-2 over their last 10 games and are just one back of Baltimore at 6.5 games back for third place in the AL East and five back in the wild card race.
Including this four game series against Toronto the Yankees next nine games total are against AL East foes and is their chance to jump right back into the thick of things.
New York in the 1978 season at this same juncture was 7.5 games out, but ended up winning the division after defeating Boston in the one game playoff at Fenway Park.
This 2013 version doesn't have the talent their predecessor did, however anything is possible and the Bombers need to continue their winning ways especially against the teams they need to beat.
