While ESPN New York's Wallace Matthews "wasn't feeling" certain players for this year's hall of fame election (whatever that means), Orioles101 writer Josh Michael diligently conducted a Sports Media 101 baseball writers vote that saw two players get elected from our point of view.  After Josh tabulated the results, former Houston Astros second baseman/catcher/outfielder Craig Biggio and former New York Mets catcher Mike Piazza were the two players elected, at least from the point of view of Sports Media 101.

The variables surrounding this year's class are unlike any baseball fans have ever seen, however to say "the proof is in the pudding" for the cases of Biggio and Piazza is an understatement. Besides the various All-Star appearances and Silver-Slugger awards between the two, Biggio ended his career with 3,060 hits and and Piazza's career .308 batting average has him firmly entrenched as one of the greatest offensive catchers that ever played. Similar to Josh's sentiment, I will not hide the fact that both Biggio and Piazza were on my ballot, as well as various others. Be sure to tune back in tomorrow to Orioles101 as Josh will release the rest of the results from our first annual vote, and here's a little teaser for you,

“I will leave you with one interesting note, one player fell just one vote short of being elected into the Hall of Fame by our writers. Who is it? You will have to come back tomorrow to find out.”
