The Yankees added LHP Manny Banuelos the No. 4 prospect in New York's organization. Currently Banuelos is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery performed on Oct 4 of this year. The 21 year old lefty was on the DL a couple of times this year with elbow soreness and in just six starts for Triple-A affiliate Scranton Wilkes-Barre he went 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA.
Others added to the 40-man roster include right handed pitchers Brett Marshall and Jose Ramirez, outfielder Ramon Flores, lefty pitchers Nik Turley and Francisco Rondon and RHP Mickey Storey who the Yankees claimed off waivers from the Houston Astros.
Storey, 26, had 26 relief appearances and a 3.86 ERA with the Astros after joining the team in August. Prior to that Storey pitched the majority of the season for their Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City.
The 22 year old RHP Marshall spent his season in Trenton and had a record of 13-7 with a 3.52 ERA and led the team with 120 strikeouts.
Flores. 20, spent almost the entire season at Class A Tampa and in 131 games hit .302 with six home runs and 39 RBIs.
Ramirez, 22, and Turley, 23, also played for Class A Tampa for the majority of their seasons. Ramirez in 21 games was 7-6 with a 3.19 ERA and Turley in 23 games sported a 9-5 record with an impressive 2.89 ERA.
Rondon, 24, had 44 relief appearances combined for Tampa, Trenton and Scranton Wilkes-Barre and was 5-0 with one save and a 3.93 ERA.
Major League regulations stipulate that any player who signed his first professional contract before age 19 and has been in the organization for five years, or who signed after age 19 and has been in the organization for four years, is eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 Draft if left unprotected. Thus, such players as Banuelos and Flores must be added to the 40-man roster, whereas younger prospects are safe.
If selected, a player must remain on his new team's active roster or disabled list all season or be offered back to his original club at a discounted price
