Sabathia's surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama and he is expected to fully recover in time for the start of the 2013 regular season.

General manager Brian Cashman told MLB.com that CC may be on a modified program during spring training, but he has no doubt he will be ready for opening day.

The 32 year old lefty landed on the DL due to elbow inflammation in August, missing two starts. After the loss to the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS CC had an MRI which revealed the bone spur.

Sabathia won 15 games and logged his usual 200 innings this year, but they wouldn't be considered vintage CC starts because of his lack of fastball command which resulted in giving up a career high 22 home runs.

The Yankees were going to have Sabathia checked out once the season concluded and since he admitted he still felt discomfort surgery was not far off in the horizon.

Sabathia was 2-0 with a 1.58 ERA against the Baltimore Orioles in the division series, but lost in his one appearance in the ALCS giving up six runs on 11 hits in just 3 2/3 innings.
