The Kansas City Royals have agreed to trade reliever Cesar Cabral to the New York Yankees for cash, reports Bob Dutton. Cabral was selected by the Royals earlier today in the 2011 Rule 5 Draft.

The Yankees have now added another pitcher, after selecting Brad Meyers in the Rule 5 Draft earlier. Cabral was selected by Kansas City from the Boston Red Sox organization and then flipped to the Yankees for $100,000. The Royals had the fifth pick in the draft while the Yankees had the 29th, so the Yankees felt they needed to make the move or else they would lose out on getting Cabral.

Cabral, 22 years old, is a left-handed reliever and is expected to compete for a spot in the Yankees' bullpen this coming season. Since he was selected in the draft, the Yankees must keep him on the major league roster or he will be sent back to the Red Sox.

In 2011, Cabral was 3-4 with a 2.95 ERA while splitting time between A and AA for the Red Sox.
